Port Solent is one of the South coasts finest waterside leisure destination, perfect for dining out, relaxing, sailing, entertainment and living.
On 20 April 1988 the marina locks were opened for business, flooding the marina for the first time. The honour went to Sir Alex Rose, KB, sailing “Lively Lady” as the first vessel to enter the new complex. The Princess Royal officially opened the £200 million Port Solent marina (at the time the biggest mixed use marina of its type in Northern Europe) Princess Anne arrived by Royal Barge and unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.
So…..picture the scene today….a marina full of gently bobbing yachts, the sun setting over the water, a glass of something nicely chilled and the aromas of delicious food all creating the perfect setting to sit back and enjoy the relaxed, holiday atmosphere of the South Coast’s premier leisure destination.
Whether you live here or just visiting, The Boardwalk has a good selection of stylish restaurants and bars overlooking the stunning 800 berth marina, which truly comes alive when the sun shines and offers visitors and residents a unique waterside experience, as well as regular entertainment and events.
Whatever it is that floats your boat, Port Solent has something to tempt even the most discerning of taste buds. With restaurants representing all corners of the globe, at Port Solent, you’ll be sure to find what you’re looking for. The Mediterranean marina theme is brought to life by the abundance of excellent quality Italian Ristorantes and Pizzerias, from the traditional and unique O Sole Mio, to family favourites such as Zizzi, Prezzo and the brand new Pizza Express, opening in spring 2011.
