Southgate Estates is a family-run agency, covering Exeter and the beautiful South-East Devon coastline, from the Jurrasic Coast to the Teign Estuary.

Based in the heart of the cathedral city of Exeter, at the top of the Exe Estuary, our agency specializes in selling and letting a vast range of properties, from city centre studios to extensive rural homes.  The company was founded on ethical principles and as well as promising to act with complete integrity, we offer fair terms to clients and actively supports the work of a charity, benefitting some of the world’s most deprived teenagers in Uganda.

The South-East Devon coastline has is particularly varied, and includes the Regency seaside towns of Sidmouth, Exmouth and Teignmouth, the university city of Exeter and many smaller, traditional villages which nestle in the rolling Devon countryside.

The beautiful Exe Estuary is unique in many ways. Still privately owned by the Earl of Devon, whose magnificent home is located on the adjacent hillside, the Estuary has become a natural yachting haven.

Exeter has been used as a sea port since Roman times, with the exception of a period in medieval times, when local land-owners prevented ship access after building mills on their land.  It was during this period that the port of Topsham became one of England’s busiest ports, just 4 miles South of Exeter.

The Estuary town of Topsham remains popular as a coastal town.  With exceptionally well-preserved architecture, many Dutch-gabled buildings, narrow streets, a range of independent shops and a yacht club, it is now a highly sought after location.  Further along the Eastern shore of the estuary, Exton and Lympstone are traditional and attractive Devon villages.  Homes in Lympstone come with a private mooring in the Estuary, making it especially popular with the yachting community.  Plus you can dry your washing on the beach!

Other nearby waterside towns include Sidmouth, with its beautiful beaches and Regency architecture, Exmouth, which has a marina at the mouth of the Estuary and the traditional seaside holiday town of Dawlish.

The seaside town and port of Teignmouth is located at the mouth of the Teign Estuary and still includes a working commercial docks, whilst offering an excellent location for a range of watersports.  The long sandy beaches have a Victorian pier as well as traditional beach huts, cafes and pubs.
