On May 9, President Nikos Christodoulides reaffirmed Cyprus’s commitment to joining the Schengen Area, announcing that the country is in the final phase of its accession process. Full membership is expected by 2026, with all technical and legislative requirements set to be completed by the end of 2025—timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Schengen Agreement.

The announcement was made during Europe Day celebrations in Nicosia, attended by European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. She emphasized that the European Parliament would “always be by your side and will actively support you” throughout the process.
